Firex KF20R Rookmelder, Wit

Now fitted in utility room and works well -

I had to replace a now discontinued model IAR230C, which should have been replaced in 2012. It had been superseded twice by new models and I was worried I couldn't find an equivalent model. Fortunately, the KF20R was a suitable replacement. The connecting plug fitted the old model as did the ceiling mount. Very happy with the purchase.

I bought two of these to replace a couple of Fire Angel alarms that started going off randomly for no reason.These have worked fine for 18 months so far.

I replaced the old one because it beeped every minute, even though I had put in a new battery (but on the rear of the unit it said I should have replaced the whole unit 8 years previously, so it had done well to last that long).Anyway, the new one beeped as well, so I called in an alarm company who fitted one that worked.

I hadn't realised that the mains unit's had a limited lifetime until my one went off in the middle of the night. Taking it down it had a replace by 2016 sticker on, had never thought of taking them down to check that didn't know you needed to. Happy sticking with the same brand I could use the existing fixing plate on the ceiling. Although the old electric connection fits it has to be replaced with the new one supplied or the lithium rechargeable battery doesn't get charged
