I've always wanted a Kanken but the backpacks aren't padded enough for me to feel safe carrying my laptop in one.This is the perfect size for a shoulder bag. It's small and light. Some people may find it too small. As a guide: it's *just* big enough for an iPad Mini, and can fit a regular-size Kindle easily. It also perfectly fits my A6 memobottle, a small wallet, and a sunglasses case. Don't expect it to fit much more than that.The whole bag is well-made and sturdy. The design is very cute. The straps are super adjustable, can be short or long depending on how you use it. I keep the straps long and sling it across my body.Two points: It's water resistant, but not waterproof. And it may arrive a little crumpled. This material tends to have a "crushed" look when it isn't stored properly while empty e.g. while shipping from Japan. The solution is to fill it. I stuffed the small front pocket with a pair of socks and left them there for a couple of days. The crushed look disappeared. Now I use that pocket for storing my wireless earbuds. The crumples on the rest of the bag disappeared after using it a couple of times.Overall very happy. Definitely scratched my Kanken itch.
