Everyone needs a step bit.. Sometimes it's necessary to start small and make a hole progressively larger than try and just blow a huge hole through wood blowing out the backside... However!... Sharpen these first... Pick a flat spot and run a file over it a few times.. sharper = less heat up/less burning.. and they'll drill way faster

They cut and I must say it is very practical to drill out thin material in steps, a big drill bit would catch and jam but these drill in stages so they tend to pilot and center themselves.But they have dings in the edges so would actually need to be sharpened even though they are new. A bit disappointing since a little care in the manufacturing would prevent that.

This is enough for 1 hole , they heat up and do not drill anymore
