The Freenove ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 module looks more genuine than some of the other models available on Amazon. Mine came with a Micro USB cable despite my board having USB-C ports, so that was a little odd, but other than that, everything is as expected, and it works well. I was easily able to compile MicroPython for the device, which has 8MB of flash. The others offer more flash (16MB) but this board looks to be more professional and genuine.

It comes with a USB-C data cable. The board includes online documents and example sketches for Arduino IDE, which are very useful for speeding up the learning curve.It connects to my PC running Ubuntu without any driver installation as ACM0. I did not need to use the OTG port. It works well with Arduino IDE 1.8.19. Unfortunately, the Freenove download zip file does not have a board installation file for the specific Freenove ESP32-S3-WROOM Board Lite. Instead, it was suggested that the more generic ESP32-S3 board be used in the board manager in Arduino IDE.My blinking LED test worked well with the LED on pin 2. However, I got some unknown compilation errors using another sketch file LEDPIXEL provided by Freenove.Overall, the board appears to work well with Arduino IDE 1.8.19. However, some example sketch files may need tweaking to compile without error. Perhaps my legacy version of the Arduino IDE 1.8.19 is also causing problems. To put it in perspective, most MCU board manufacturers do not include any documentation at all, not to mention example files. Therefore, I am delighted with my order.

Stable and well-documented. Clear manual and datasheet. Recognised by ArduinoIDE and Platformio. Behaves as expected. Company-provided breakout board for this chip (and cam module) is a killer feature. No issues whatsoever ! Chip itself marked as original espressif and I truly believe it is. The first S3 module that works as a charm in my experience (along with cam module from Freenove). Bought it to replace cam module for more pins available.
