Many Hi-Fi enthusiasts out there should be well aware that there are now at least 4 different cable types to connect to high quality reference headphones. (In my case the fabulous Sennheiser HD800S which are giving me the finest sound I have ever heard to date. I'm actually preferring the headphone listening to amp and speaker setups. Blows most of them away hands down.)You have standard 3.5mm stereo plug, standard 6.5mm stereo plug. 4.4mm stereo balanced plug(this is a new standard where the ground wire from each channel has it's own separate cable to fully allow for individual channel isolation without any interference from sharing the same ground wire. It's now featuring on most high quality DACs and headhphone amplifiers along with many hand held Hi-Fi portable DAC players like the Astell & Kern, Fiio, Ibasso and Iriver range of players for example. The 4th style is the same as a 4.4mm setup, except the balanced plug is seperated into either a combined or separated set of XLR plugs and again many higher quality headphone AMPs and DACs now feature sockets for these very cables. The alleged benefit being you get a tighter connection with XLR plugs with multiple pins to just a single plug(not to mention the lock lug.) Personally I'd argue with the short length of the majority of headphone cables(no more than say 5m in length) that this is surely miniscule to non-existant in terms of price to value for audio quality money, however if your shelling out thousands for a high quality listening experience then the added expense of a balanced quality XLR cable will surely provide you with peace of mind that you have certainly added the highest possible quality connection to your audio source. So this device was purely to prevent pulling the balanced headphone cable out and swapping it with the other non-balanced cable. Sure Sennheiser supply both but for longevity, it surely can't be good on the headphones to be swapping the cables every week or even couple of days for long periods of time. I've got a nice Rupert Neve headphone amplifier and am still in the process of deciding upon a new DAC and headphone amplifier to replace it. While I can foresee that the added output power of most new headhpone amplifiers will be a benefit, the Rupert Neve headphone amplifier is excellent quality and isn't completely at max output to drive my current headphones. My only critique on this product, is that it features a decent quality 3.5mm plug and 4.4mm socket, with what looks to be high enough quality OFC cable between, however I would have liked a stress relief type of sleeve over the whole cable assembly to make it more robust. While I do not intend to ever go jogging with my highest quality headphones, never the less you will find yourself having to fluff with the lead to place it in such a way that no weight is hanging off this unbalanced to balanced cable converter, otherwise it's surely not going to last long.Other than this, it's a great product that will save the expensive headphones from possible socket wear and ultimately increase their life span.

Another great product from Geekria that allows headphones, i.e.ms etc with a 4.4mm balanced plug to connect to a DAP, DAC/amp or similar devices with a 3.5mm stereo socket, having spent much more on another companies adaptor cable which would only output sound on one channel (the left) which I returned, I decided to try this one. This adaptor works perfectly is well made and durable construction both the female receptacle and Jack plug are of metal construction and gold plated, feels quite substantial in the hand and functions perfectly without colouring the sound output or volume. Recommended.

Solid, hefty yet nimble and flexible feel, connectors feel high quality and strong. Copper/silver wire is very lustrous and soft, very transparent in sound, doesn't add or take anything away and seems to do what it should, which is covert a balanced signal to single ended so a 4.4 balanced cable can connect to a standard 3.5 single ended output. Works great so far with a apple headphone adapter, can only hope it's as durable as it looks and feels.
