I fish great lakes tributaries for salmon, steelhead, and giant browns. I normally use spinning gear, but I want to learn to fly fish. So, when I saw this reel was available in a 9/10, I had to pick it up. It's my first reel of this size, so I don't have a lot to compare it to. It has a beautiful matte black finish. It's relatively smooth reeling. The drag is easy to adjust, but not when you are reeling. It's very easy to change out the spool.I am a lefty who favors right hand retrieve and this is the simplest change over that I have every experience (just had to read the instructions). It is not like other fly reels when you open it up, but it is MUCH easier to change than other reels.It's a great feature that you can purchase an extra spool for this reel. This is particularly important if you are going on trips where you don't want or can't to restring your set up.This reel comes with a very nice padded case for safe storage and transportation.

Now this has a drag system that I've felt that has more power than your other fly reels. It's very smooth but it dials the drag way more than what it's rated. Although you can use your hand as drag, this you can set at a powerful setting to prevent fish from peeling line. It's made very well with a matte black finish. There are no blemishes to the manufacturing as well as the coatings. It's machined very well to the most intricate detail. The spindle in the middle is pretty thick at 1/4". And if you want to reverse the direction of the reel, untighten the smaller knob, pull the spool out, and flip the directional sprocket on the frame. It's that simple. The line capacity is good wherein it's very easy to install/add as well as retrieve line in total smoothness. The best part is that it's not shiny where it can spook fish if they're sensitive to anything that shimmers back at them. I'm really not much of a fan of all these fancy colors and this is going to be my favorite fly reel from now on.

A solid robust feeling reel that very light. It was a pleasure to use for the entire trip. A full day with little fatigue. Good smooth drag. And just the perfect feel.

This reel is a beast! It is very ruggedly made, has an extremely smooth action, adjustments are precise and it's most definitely made out of quality material.
