We wanted this for our trap door in the kitchen as it's not easy to lift it up without one of these. Before we installed our new grey stone style laminate floor in our newly fitted kitchen, we had a gold one, but that doesn't look right with our grey floor, so we've only been using a thin key thing to open it with as we haven't seen a silver one until now.This is the perfect size for our trap door and it is well made and strong, which is what we need as hubby increased the size of the trap door when we installed the laminate flooring as he was struggling to fit in the hole. Now it's bigger, it needs a good, strong hatch in order to lift the extra weight, and this is ideal.All you have to do it depress it in the part with the grooves, and the handle pops up so that you can lift the door open. Our trap door comes off completely, it isn't on a hinge, so we really do need this to be strong.The only thing I would say, is that we would have liked it to have come with a template for cutting the countersunk hole so that it sits flush against the floor. It needs to be exact as there is no lip around the edge, so you do have to take care and get this right first time.It comes with 2 screws for fitting and you will need a minimum depth of 2.5cms in order to accommodate the hatch and the screws. We made sure it was installed over one of the joists on the underside of the trap door as we were worried that the actual door with the laminate on top wasn't quite deep enough.
