This shovel is good for both snow and sand. We first used it in Tahoe and scooping snow was very smooth and easy. The mouth of the shovel was wide and the handles were thick enough for my 3yr old to hold it properly.The next time we used it was in Hawaii, playing at the beach. It was again very useful with water coming out on one end, like a waterfall.This is a good purchase. Although a tad more expensive but it is a lot more durable than cheaply made ones. Hape is a good toy brand for kids.
