The earpads are about half the thickness of the original pads that come with the Sennheiser HD280. Both the pre 2016 and post 2016 version of the headphone carry MUCH thicker earpads. However, the headband is a great replacement for this earlier model version. I would recommend this purchase if you only need to replace the top headpad and don't care for the earpads. Otherwise, expect to be disappointed with the thickness.

I ordered this for my Sennheiser HD280 PRO which are pre 2016. The headband is completely falling apart so I ordered this primarily for the headband. The headband is spot on correct for the headphones. They are a bit of a pain to install. It is like trying to close a zip lock bag but more difficult. In the pic you can see that the profile shape of the locking zipper is like two F interlocking. Once you have it on you can massage it into place.The muffs on my headphones were still in great condition so I put the muffs in this kit away for another day. I did take a moment to compare them to the original. They are definitely smaller both in diameter and thickness. The padding is softer than the original. The listing states that these are made of memory foam and are an upgrade to the original in noise isolation and comfort. To me, memory foam conforms and is slow to release its shape. I did not notice that with these. Keep in mind that I am comparing them to an original set that is 10 years old. If yours are trash and you need a new set this is a good option even if the muffs are a little smaller.
