As a Nikon Z8 owner who frequently shoots in portrait orientation, I was eager to find a battery grip to improve ergonomics and extend shooting time. The Hersmay Vertical Holder Multi Battery Grip, as a more affordable alternative to the official Nikon MB-N12, piqued my interest. After using it for a few weeks, here's my assessment:Pros:Affordable: Significantly cheaper than the Nikon MB-N12, making it a budget-friendly option.Doubles Battery Life: Holds two EN-EL15c batteries, effectively doubling shooting time, which is a huge plus for long events or outdoor shoots.Improved Ergonomics: Provides a more comfortable grip when shooting vertically, especially with heavier lenses.Duplicate Controls: Features a shutter release button, control dials, and function buttons for convenient vertical shooting.Cons:Build Quality: Feels less sturdy and refined compared to the official Nikon grip. The plastic construction is noticeable, and the buttons don't have the same tactile feedback.Battery Compartment Door: The battery compartment door feels a bit flimsy and doesn't close as securely as I'd like.No Weather Sealing: Unlike the Nikon MB-N12, this grip lacks weather sealing, which could be a concern for shooting in harsh conditions.Compatibility Issues: Some users have reported minor compatibility issues with certain Z8 features, such as the focus joystick not working as expected.Overall:The Hersmay Battery Grip is a decent alternative for Nikon Z8 users who want the benefits of a battery grip without the hefty price tag. It delivers on its core functions of extending battery life and improving ergonomics for vertical shooting. However, the build quality and lack of weather sealing are compromises to consider. If you're on a budget and primarily shoot in controlled environments, this grip might be a good fit. But if you demand the best build quality and weatherproofing, the official Nikon MB-N12 is worth the extra investment.
