I've been upgrading the mechanical limit switches on my CNC router so dust and wood chips will not affect them. I needed one that was normally closed (the switch will conduct electricity like when you turn on a light) when there's nothing near the sensor. As something metal gets within range the switch turns opens (like turning off a light). This is a PNP style sensor (look it up to determine if it's right for your application). Setting the sensor up is super easy. The body is mostly threaded so you ave lots of range to move it. There's a red LED that comes on when the sensor is activated by metal being within range. The repeatability is great. I did a couple of tests (homing the CNC, setting the zero, then moving back to home to document the distance travelled) and the difference was a fraction of a mm between each time I repeated the test.

I've been using this module for about a week now and it still works so that's a plus! It has a threaded nut with some texture grip on the top I thought was interesting. Probably useless but I think it looks neat.I'm operating the with 12v and triggering a PWM module that draws a fraction of the 200mah limit. That powers an indictive heater that I use to heat up nails or links on jewelry etc.Once the metal items pass the blue tip the PWM gets a signal and the heater turns on. I don't have a signal analyzer but it appears stable just by looking at the LED. If your use case needed a signal analyzer in general these cheap modules might not be for you but if your project is simple or primitive then I'd recommend.
