I purchased this kit because I enjoy cross-stitch and wanted a larger project that would take some time. I purchased the geisha kit and was quite happy to see the careful instructions and the colour guide. It’s the first project I do with a colour guide as opposed to symbols/numbers.I will address a couple of complaints other users have made as well as my own observations:1. Thread quality/amount. It is true that this kit includes mediocre thread compared to normal embroidery thread, but it is adequate for the project and it is false to say there is insufficient thread. There is more than enough. People who run out of thread haven’t read the instructions to split the steands. Each strand contains six threads. You have to use two threads for 14c. or three threads for 11c. My project is 11c, therefore I have to split each strand into two. People have also said they don’t now where to buy more if the do run out. The guide contains the thread number for the project as well as another number. That number is the official colour number. You can purchase it from anywhere with that number.2. The guide colours. This is what I am currently struggling with the most. See attached pictures - both the paper guide and the printed guide on the fabric are hard to see. The fabric guide has some variations because of the nature of fabric and the paper guide is no better. There are too many colours that are too similar to each other. I enjoy games where you haventonfistingiish colours and I know I have good colour perception so when I m was that some colours are near impossible to tell apart, especially in artificial light, it is no exaggeration. And because the printed colour is often very different from the thread colour (to aid visibility, supposedly), you might be making mistakes that will only become apparent later on. I find that symbols/numbers are far more helpful in this sort of project, or perhaps a combination of both, or a correlation between print colour and thread colour so that if we don’t see the difference in print the end result won’t be so bad. Two stars down for this.3. “The stitches don’t look like the objects they’re representing”. I read this in other reviews. Again, you didn’t read the instructions. It is impossible to add a lot of detail when putting a complex picture in a small frame. As the instructions say, in cross stitch we commonly do this by backstitching the outlines. However, these instructions only say “please refer to the drawing”’and don’t provide an actual guide of where to place the backstitches. The drawing is too tiny to do this accurately based on that alone. So that is another star down.I might edit this review after finishing the project and see how the guide washes off and how the final work looks. Stay tuned! I hope this helps.
