I've been wanting to buy a chamfer plan for a while but the choices were between a cheap $30 knockoff or a $159 woodpecker plane. Seeing the pricing for this is in the middle of the two I've decided to give it a try.After testing it out on some walnut with bad grain direction it seemed to have cut very well with both the chamfer and fillet sides as you can see in the pictures.I've used it already quite a bit already as I'm in the middle of a big project which is why I started looking for one and I can say it's doing a good job so far.The only downsides I saw so far is that the print (text/logo) on one side is poorly stenciled and looks bad and cheep while the other side is crisp and clean. The other downside is that it's somewhat hard to hold or figure out a correct grip with the thing but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it.I wasn't sure if having similar blades to a jointer or planer would be better than a standard hss shank that you can sharpen over and over again but with what they give you, you have about 6 edges ready to be used for chamfers and 6 sharp edges for fillets, all you have to do it rotate the blade to use a fresh edge. This is something I'll have to test more but I expect them to last a long time, if not I'll update this review.I don't have a woodpecker chamfer plane but I bet this plane would be on par in quality but possibly superior in design. Time will tell.

I was nervous about ordering this plane. Would it be a flimsy, poorly engineered China-made knockoff? Well, this tool is excellent in so many ways. It is sturdy, solidly constructed, accurate. And comfortable in the hand. It is innovative, with the straight chamfer and round over blades at opposite ends and a storage compartment for the extra carbide tip. The blades are really sharp and accurate, and will (I hope) be easy to replace when the time comes, which is a long way off. I have used it on pine, hard maple, mahogany, Baltic birch plywood, and cherry so far. It is so much easier to use this tool than to pull out and set up router bits. The depth gauge is accurate and I love the fact that I can easily do test cuts of a chamfer and then a round over, look at both, and quickly decide what looks best for my project. I am a buyer/owner of fine but expensive tools from Lie-Nielsen, Veritas, Woodpeckers, Festool, etc. and am very happy to have this Hongdui chamfer plane in the mix. I look forward to Hongdui’s next innovation.

Better than I expected. Starting and stopping is tricky but manageable. No tear out on end grain and the weight is good. Take your time go easy.
