Along with two plastic spoons, an instruction leaflet and some stencils, this little gadget arrives in a easy to recycle plastic bag.The pen is made from the same type of lightweight plastic used to make cheap kids toys. Combined with the exposed 2 cell batteries and a poor quality construction, this pen instantly felt like rubbish. The type of product that might last a few weeks if you get lucky.A level of quality which extends to the poorly written instructions, fortunately this gadget is easy to use. Lift the easy to open lid, and using the included small spoon, slowly add your desired dry powder into the "hopper" of the pen. In terms of powder it works with anything reasonably fine, like coffee, sugar or hot chocolate.Also remember this is one time when the expression "keep your powder dry" is actually a truism. Mainly because if you use anything damp it will stick to the batteries and the inside of the pen. Damp powder that will be almost impossible to clean off.You will get a fair bit of spillage on whatever surface you fill the pen on. Spillage that can be wiped off with a cloth or sponge. But for cleaning the pen the best solution is to use a hair dryer blowing out cold air. Never use anything wet to clean the pen or it'll ruin it.Now, while carefully keeping the pen level, close the lid. Next place a stencil over your drink and gently and slowly angle the pen over the stencil. You'll notice that even before pressing the on button the contents will start to fall out.But don't worry about that, just press the button to get the rest of the contents out quickly. What you'll find is this has actually worked, and in fairness can look as good as a Barista can do it. Especially as you get 16 different styles of stencils, all of which are well made from a thin plastic that can be washed. Stencils that will probably last a lot longer than the pen will.Overall ? I can't deny this is a really rubbish product, made with poor quality materials, something that's really not worth the price. Plus while it does have a fun factor, that fun only lasted for a few days before people got bored. Especially once they had to spend time cleaning up the mess it leaves behind.Yet we didn't want to add it to a pile of e-waste, so we started using this with mica powder and extra fine glitter to make greeting cards with. Something that's fun to do and we can use other stencils, so at least it'll get some use from it before it gives up.
