Wanted to replace the default quick release seat clamp (to easy to steal) that came on a 90's Trek 970 MTB. A fixed seat clamp, even a Thomson one, had no good/strong grip so the seat slowly slided down over time. This clamp fixed it.Setup: a 28,6 adapter/shim, this seatclamp and a 27,2 seatpost. Don't overtighten it (can mess up the bolts or thread) and it works great. Also looks better than expected.

This stopped my seat post from slipping down, when nothing else did. And it wasn't even expensive.

While not the highest quality this clamp does what it is supposed to : solves that vexing problem of your seatpost slipping down and ruining your perfect pedal stroke. I tried these on my 31.8 (outside seat tube diameter) / 27.2 (actual diameter of the seatpost itself) and the double clamp feature works well. The lower part clamps and compresses the 31.8 seat tube like most standard seatpost clamps and the 27.2 upper part grips the seatpost itself firmly. Once you get both parts snugged down tightly that seatpost is going to stay in place.I bought a second one for an experiment : I used a hacksaw to cut off the top section of this clamp so I have a 27.2 clamp just for to clamping on to my Thomson seatpost with 27.2 diameter. I am building a bike that has a seatpost clamp built into the frame so I can't use the bottom section. My guess is that I can place this upper section clamp right against that built-in clamp of the bike frame and end up with the same result. With this upper section snugged down and butting against that built in clamp on the frame it is hard to see my seatpost slipping down at all.The big mystery to me is that nobody seems to have manufactured a simple, quality clamp that can be used for that purpose anyway. I have never had a bike where a normal seatpost clamp (that only clamps the seat tube) does not allow the seatpost to slip down at least slightly over time. A clamp for the seatpost that will butt against that normal clamp on the seat tube should always solve that problem and my experiment will validate that - I'll report back once I get my bike built and have a chance to test my theory out.
