Good quality set, comes with enough bits for around the house use easily, good quality bits with a nice throw on the rachet, case feels a little on the flimsy side but holds all the bits securely so isn't a issue, easy to grip ratchet and all bits seat onto the ratchet with ease, good quality set for starting out or have as a spare

Right then, this 53-piece socket set is fine for those little jobs around the house and doing a bit of tinkering - a decent enough toolkit for general home use, as you say.Popping open the case, which is fairly sturdy and keeps everything organised if you keep it flat (if you don’t, some of the bits fall loose and you’ll hear them rumbling around the case - arrrggggh!). Anyway, open it up and you're greeted with a good selection of bits and bobs (which you may have to reorganise depending on how careful you’ve been handling the case). The main piece is the 1/4-inch drive ratchet wrench. It feels alright and does the job of tightening and loosening nuts and bolts without too much fuss. The reverse switch is handy too, flicks over easily enough.You get a good range of sockets - both shallow and deep - and then you've got a selection of screwdriver bits. There are your standard flatheads and Phillips heads in various sizes, as well as some Torx bits and hex keys. They all seem reasonably well-made and fit snugly into the bit driver adapter that attaches to the ratchet. I used one of the Phillips bits to tighten some screws on a kitchen cupboard hinge, and it did the trick without any rounding.There are also a couple of extension bars, a flexible one which could be useful for getting into tight corners, and a standard straight one for a bit of extra reach. A sliding T-bar is included too, which I haven't had occasion to use yet, but I can see it being handy for applying a bit more torque when needed. You also get a universal joint, which again, looks useful for working at awkward angles.For general bits around the house – putting together flat-pack furniture, tightening loose screws, maybe doing a bit of basic car maintenance – this budget set seems perfectly adequate.
