I soldered the device in my circuit and it instantly failed (smoked and chipped as you can see in the image). Replaced it and the same thing happened again. I am using it for a power-on softstart circuit to limit the charging current into a 680uf capacitor upon power on. I used it to replace a device that failed after 20 years of use. the ohmic and the current rating of the old device and this one are the same, 10 ohms @25C and 4 amps. this device does not specify the maximum capacitor size it would work with. It is possible that this is a miss application that resulted from insufficient spec information, namely the capacitor size it would work with.
