It is kind of hard to find a cleaning tool to get the crud out of a large instrument like a flugelhorn, but this product does the trick. It is a good idea to wet the brushes with water and use a generous about of dishwashing liquid so the attached line does not break off with the brush part stuck inside the tubing of the horn. If this is done correctly, the cleaning tool works just fine and you can remove all the spit and old oil and grease from the entire horn. Of course, rinse the horn out completely to get the soap out of the horn and let dry over night. There is a marked improvement in the playing of the horn and the water keys work better during regular playing.

This brush will reach all the way through the flugelhorn from lead pipe to well outside the bell!!

The long lactic line broke when pulling through my flugelhorn. I’ll buy another and try to be more gentle

I would not recommend this product to clean any flugelhorn with French style slides that point downward! The lead is made of a somewhat flimsy plastic, and snapped on my first attempted use! The brush was stuck in the Bell Branch tubing of my fluglehorn. I had to carefully use needle-nose pliers to remove it. Very scary situation!I have an older version that I used to clean my trumpets. It is made much better and is perhaps 7 years old. Cleaning fluglehorns is more difficult due to the shape and the fact that there is no pull out section of the bell on most. My best suggestion is to power flush your flugelhorn regularly, like maybe twice a week, so that no residue builds up in your bell branch. And maybe have a professionally cleaned once a year or so. This swab is not the solution!
