I bought this because my bike came with SRAM Guide brakes with the GX Eagle shifter mounted via a matchmaker clamp fixing the shifter to the underside of the brake lever. Whilst I appreciate the aesthetics of a neater looking handlebar, the shifter was positioned right in the way of where my thumb went making it impossible to fully hold on to the grips without nearly dislocating my thumb, I can only assume that the matchmaker setup was designed with those without thumbs in mind. It's not an ideal setup when going fast down hill over rough terrain and often resulted in me having a sprained thumb as I attempted to contort it out of the way when not shifting. I could have moved the brake lever and shifter assembly further left but would have struggled to reach the brake lever easily, also far from ideal. This clamp solves that problem. For the small price of a slightly more cluttered cockpit, I can now independently alter the position of the shifter inboard and for angle. The only downside is that it doesn't come with an M5x16mm bolt for those who don't have spares lying around.
