I make professional scale models for a living, and I need a reliable 3D printer to make parts, such as rail tracks for some of the assemblies I work on. Having a belt printer to print abnormally long parts makes my job so much easier and reduces the need to print sections of a part only to have to assemble them afterwards with the tedious post-production that comes with it.I previously had the Creality CR-30 in my printfarm and whereas it was possible to do decent quality with the correct setting, it was mostly a hassle to get anything to stick to the belt and the speed was appallingly slow. I’ve been looking for an affordable replacement for some time now and with the arrival of the upgraded V2 of the Ideaformer IR3, I decided to take the chance based on the positive reviews I found online.I can honestly say that I do not regret taking that chance. The printer arrived on my doorsteps and within an hour, I had already printed my first Benchy (something I understand that all owners of 3D printers must do when getting a new printer). The speed of printing and quality of the printed parts was amazing, probably due to a direct drive extrusion on the printhead. The metallic belt is also fantastic and there have been no issues with plate adhesion whatsoever with the prints I’ve done since I got it. The frame is very sturdy and comes mostly assembled; you only need to attach the XY gantry to the base unit and plug in some connectors and you’re good to go.Most of my printers are Prusa, so I am not so familiar with the whole Klipper thing, but it has proven to be quite easy to use and the menus on the display are straightforward and easy to understand. Even the LAN setup was a breeze, and I am now easily printing remotely from my office using the web browser platform, even with a webcam and all.If you’re into props, long prints, or just want to nerd out with a reliable belt printer, the IR3 V2 is worth every penny. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to experiment with infinite-Z printing without all the headaches.
