I am obsessed with the sun and all of the wonderful and magical things it can do- not to mention it is literally a giant burning ball of fire suspended in the solar system. I'll never forget the day in 3rd grade where I was introduced to cyanotype or cyano prints in art (I still have that first print too!). I not only learned about another magical thing that the sun could do (with the help of some iron salts)- make art, but I actually discovered the only type of visual art that I'm actually good at. I have always loved cyano prints and have purchased several kits in the past, as well as just the solutions on their own. I realized when I saw this that my daughter was not yet aware of this amazing form of art, so I decided to pick this up so we had something fun to do together.The kit arrived quick. The generous sized, branded box, with beautiful blue art/graphics was fully sealed in plastic.Inside, each and every element was placed carefully in an assigned spot which make the unboxing super exciting, visually appealing and kept everything intact and free from any type of damage.I feel like someone in the company works in education, because as an instructor myself, I couldn't help but notice how meticulous and well written the instructions and explanations are. While I am familiar with the process, I really wanted my daughter (who is 13) to take the wheel on this. Unlike me, her art skills are on a whole other level and I wanted to see where she would go with this set/medium. Not only are cyano prints beautiful and visually satisfying, but the whole process is gratifying as well.This is, without a doubt, a very exciting project to do with kids. I love that there is a scientific/chemistry component to it too, which my daughter found fascinating. BUT...this IS more of an adult/artist quality kit in my opinion. Either way, it's rewarding all the way around.We made some amazing prints (well, I helped with a few and made 2 of my own, she did the rest). Watching her figure out how everything worked and looking at the progress from her first print to the last (of kit #1), I was blown away at how fast she took to this and how quickly she went from a print of just random stuff that was laying around (that is still pretty cool to be honest) to an actual image of this mystical looking path in a forest (she gave it to me and I hung it in my room!) blew my mind. When she asked me for another kit like this I couldn't say no. While there are others that are cheaper, I came right back to this one and ordered it again. The reason is simple- I KNOW that this is exceptional quality and I KNOW what my kid is capable of. If I went the cheap route and she made something phenomenal and it was using trash products, I would never be able to forgive myself.

I have wanted to try cyanotype for years and this set provided everything I needed to dip my toes into this fun art medium. The instructions were clear and concise, helping my attempts to be successful. This set came with everything you needed. It was simple to add water to the 2 bottles, activating the mediums. Then with the included measuring cup it was simple to mix up what I needed to prep the paper. The included brush is a nice quality bristled brush, which I liked better than the foam brushes found in other kits. It gave me smooth strokes and good coverage. I let the papers dry overnight in a dark room. I printed an image on one of the included transparencies and used that as my design. it was simple to layer it between the painted paper and the glass, but I chose to secure it with a binder clip, since we were having a pretty windy day. I did it twice, as I left my first one outside a little too long, which diluted the contrast. To reveal your final product, you just rinse the paper in water till it runs clear. I have always wanted to try cyanotype as they look really beautiful. The kit includes everything you need to create several projects. The instructions are simple and easy to follow. I love the creations made with flowers and leaves. Wonderful, creative activity!
