This looks like you have step by step instructions but I found myself having to just work things out several times, trial and error style. The devil is in the details, and the devil is absent here. Nonetheless, I worked it out and really it’s pretty easy to do, although hindsight is a wonderful thing. Would be easier with a second person holding things square, but you can manage by yourself. What you need to do first is establish which set of holes you want to put the shelf into, depending on the height of your microwave. The width adjustment is done right at the end, so it’s easiest to just keep the sliding overlapping shelf as short as possible during construction for stability. The two parts of the adjuster rod need to be put together before you screw them into the shelf. You have to persuade the plain end of one rod to push inside the sort of splayed parts of its other half. Then you screw the flat base plates to the inside of the legs, and finally pull to your desired width and screw the adaptor bit in the middle of the rod to fix your selection. That all sounds harder than it is now that I am trying to describe it. No wonder their instructions are so minimal! Anyway, all that to say that this black metal shelf works well to maximise storage. I generally just put stuff right on top of the microwave but that really isn’t ideal. There are plastic hooks which fit snugly on either side, potentially useful for oven gloves or small utensils. Pretty sturdy once constructed. I’m glad to have it.
