I recently bought a 2.5Gb network card, but I’m facing an issue with the fan noise. At first, I thought it was normal, but the constant noise from the fan is quite annoying, almost like having a fly buzzing around all the time. It’s the only noisy thing on my desk, so it stands out even more.I’m starting to wonder if the fan is even needed, especially since I’m not pushing the card to its full potential. The 2.5Gb connection is great, but on a fanless setup, I feel like it would be quieter without sacrificing performance.

I’ve got this card and installed it into Lenovo M720q. Lenovo was selling these PCs with an optional 4-port 1Gbe card so I decided to try a 2.5Gbe 4-port card. While this card perfectly fits into m720q it’s getting extremely hot so I can’t touch the heatsink even if are no ethernet cables attached. Also, the fan’s noise is quite loud; this is a no-go for a home computer sitting in the living room. This shouldn’t be a problem for a server room so for someone else this card will be a good choice, but not for me, thus 4 stars.From what I found all other 4-port cards with I225-V chips are also using fans so this isn’t something Kalea Informatique did wrong, it’s a bad thermal design of I225-V or PCIe chip.Other than that the card is using Intel I225-V rev3 chips and shouldn’t have connection problems as it was with previous revisions.
