despite a few bad reviews i decided to take a chance (since the only good review was on one costing 100 euro) on this one. indeed windows normally does not know what to do with it. but when you install the driver from the kensington website it works immediately. so naturally i bought a second one.used on a laptop and desktop windows10 machine. both fully updated. response is super fast, really no complaints.

Works fine on Windows, not so much on linux.

The default driver doesn't play nice on Win10. It loses functionality after a reboot, which kind of defeats the purpose. I tried different drivers with the help of forums full of people having similar issues. I consider myself reasonably tech savvy but this piece of cr@p gave me nothing but headaches. Don't buy it.

PC (win10) geeft aan dat er een 'onbekend apparaat' is geïnstalleerd. De drivers op de site van Kensington bieden geen uitkomst. De chat op die site reageerde vlot en met de beste bedoelingen. Maar na wat rond te porren in de device manager en het proberen van een andere driver gaf de beste persoon (geen bot) het op en zou het probleem 'geescaleerd' worden. Zelf nog wat rondgegoogled en op Reddit een oplossing gevonden. Met een wat oudere driver, handmatig toegevoegd, werkt het nu wel.Als je niet diep in de krochten van je PC-driver systeem wil duiken, moet je dit ding absoluut vermijden.

Dit ding werkt niet, getest op Windows 11 en Linux. Een retourperiode is slechts 1 maand op Amazon, dus ik kan het nu niet ook terugsturen.

U2F in this, the same as for Windows Hello, is directly tied to the computer where the fingerprints and the 2-factor auth had been set up (in fact, as far as I understand this, it's Windows Hello itself that manages the U2F bit in conjunction with the reader). It is therefore not portable, no data whatsoever is stored on the actual sensor. You can't just take this dongle and plug it in an another computer to authenticate; it won't work. You can however set this up with multiple computers you own. For each one of these, you must run through the entire set up process and register a "new key" with your websites. If you were hoping to trike two birds with one stone using this (fingerprint scanning and portable U2F), you are out of luck. This severely cuts the usefulness of U2F support as, generally, your own computers will be considered trusted devices for 2FA and will never be asked to use codes or keys.* U2F support just came to Edge in the 1809 Windows 10 update and it's still flaky. It's outright unsupported on Firefox (unless if you dig in the config page and manually enable it, and even then it's not reliable). If you use Chrome, you're good to go.END OF EDIT

El dispositivo biométrico funciona perfectamente una vez que es configurado. En mi caso tengo Windows 10 y no funciono el plug an play. Sin embargo descargue el driver de la página y lo instale. Seguí las instrucciones de la página del producto y pude establecer las huellas como contraseñas fácil, y rápidamente, sin ningún problema. Y al bloquear el equipo el dispositivo lo desbloquea inmediatamente. Es pequeño y discreto muy útil para los que buscamos más seguridad en nuestros equipos.

Very capable fingerprint reader from a very capable company. Provides Windows Hello functionality to a Personal Computer. So far, it has worked flawlessly with Windows Hello and PassKey for websites. The cheaper no name brand I purchased earlier on did not work reliably. I recommend spending that little bit extra to get this Kensington device.
