I added this modern Kase L-39 UV filter to simulate the effect of the 80-year-old original Nikon L39 UV filter. Putting this filter on my current mirrorless Z camera and 24-70 f2.8 Z lens has provided hundreds of images with the BLACK and WHITE capabilities of my Z9 professional body and my 28 to 70 f2.8 Z lens. And this new (OLD) filter has been an excellent addition for improving contrast and color saturation in my BLACK and WHITE (B+W) photography. The L39 is a UV-cut filter. It has a much more severe UV-cutting factor than modern UV filters, and in its day (1949 to 1972) was recommended for black and white film ONLY.If you critically examine any color image taken with this filter on your lens you will see a distinct warm-yellow tinge on your color image. It is not necessarily unpleasant, but the image looks “artificial” or manipulated rather than the CUT and SHARP B+W UV-free image the filter was made to produce. But putting your modern Mirrorless or DSLR in retro B+W mode allows this filter’s ACTUAL value to be seen in the CRISP sky, clearly delineated cloud edges and the phenomenal contrast between blue sky and green grass in a B+W digitally produced image. It is startling to anyone unfamiliar with the “L Series” lens filters from Nikon that were used in the post-World War II era. This filter was replaced in the Nikon lineup by the L37 and L37c (Multicoated) in the 1970’s. Like ANY filter attached to the front of a lens it not only protects my lens from dust and scratches but also enhances color accuracy by “cutting” (blocking) Ultraviolet (UV) light. I do appreciate how it minimizes the bluish tint that often occurs in daylight images, especially when shooting at higher altitudes where the atmosphere has NONE of the natural or human-caused filters that affect our images. It stays in place securely screwed onto my mirrorless Z lens ready to PROTECT and FILTER as needed.Filters perform their optical mission consistently, whether I am capturing landscapes or portraits in B+W or in color. ALL filters have an effect on your images. Our job as photographers is to learn what they do to our images and exactly how we can control those effects to get the results we (or our client) want. For me, this resurrected L39 filter has a profound effect on images taken on cloudy or overcast days. And I will be waiting to use it when those days next appear. Thanks, AMAZON!This AMAZON VINE Review of this Kase L39 screw-on filter is FIVE STARS!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for serious B+W shooters!Mark in North Carolina

This thing works great! The adapter ring and the diffuser are just what I wanted to for my griii. I'm glad I didn't pick the griii model with the built in dinner because I like the base model and can add it on with this. I've been wanting to get a black most filter and this one really just for the bill for my camera.

The issue with the GR series cameras is that the camera doesn't include threads to screw on filters. If you purchase the GA-1 or GA-2, depending on if you own the III or IIIx, you will get 49mm threads. This kit includes an adapter that you can attach to your camera via a 3M sticker along with two key rings, a wire, and extra stickers if you want to apply them. The OEM solution doesn't require stickers and is removable, but it also adds a 3/4" footprint to the camera as it doubles as an attachment for the converter lenses Ricoh has on offer. If you don't plan to ever use the converter lenses and want to save $50 on the OEM filter and are planning to use 49mm filters directly, the UV filter and adapter combination is great. As for the filter itself, the 1/4 halation performs well in overexposed shooting situations that give the picture a beautiful dream aesthetic, but when shot on a bright day, the effect disappears, which I think actually works out well!I've attached pictures shot with the filter using the GA-1 adapter and the filter to show off the effect.I am really happy with the filter overall, and while I won't be attaching the UV filter to my camera due to my use cases for now, I am glad to have it!

Looks nice, but pricey and a bad design for the GR III - if you’re not careful, trying to tighten the additional filters on to the threaded uv filter can lead to the whole face of the lens apparatus popping off. I really like how svelte the UV filter fits, but worried I need to send my camera in for repair now.
