Very pleased with the purchase. I bought it to sharpen a bread knife, working on each indentation. It's done a brilliant job and the knife is now as good as new.

Ceramic steel does a good job.But watch out, the Steel and handle arent connected well. So when I picked it up in a rush the Ceramic section flew out and smashed leaving me holding just the handle.

I used the rod today to finish sharpening some pocket knives. It did a good job of it too.I took the rod to the sink to clean off the fine metal particles with a wet microfiber cloth. I noticed the ceramic rod was turning in the handle, and with little effort the ceramic rod came out of the handle. The only thing holding the rod into the handle was ... A PIECE OF SELLOTAPE. No wonder it came out easily. It lost 2 stars for this egregious manufacturing sin. I removed the small amount of tape from the rod and used '60 second glue' to bond the rod to its handle permanently. It won't come loose again.

I was speaking to my friend who is a chef in a Michelin starred restaurant last night about this honing rod when it reminded me to write a review here.This is one of those investments which only once you've made it and used it can you really see the exceptional value in the investment you've made.I can not recommend this enough.My only minor issue is a cosmetic one, in that for a slightly higher price, I would love to see a nicer handle. But the equipment itself is flawless.
