I've made repeated attempts to compost our organic kitchen waste. They generally start well but peter out after a month or two.The reason for previous attempts stalling were as follows:#1 - Couldn't be bothered to take the scraps all the way to the composter in the garden, negotiating in the rain and dark across lawn mined with stealth dog poo.#2 - Got a pottery 'counter top caddy' from Lakeland. It got filled very quickly, made smells despite the filter and, after about a month, the lid got dropped and smashed.#3 - Got a plastic caddy with filter. This worked the longest of all attempts but, although there was a smell filter, smells seemed to sneak around the edge of the lid and it failed the WAF (wife acceptance factor) because it didn't look good in the kitchen.So.. ..on the the next attempt.I've bought some Bokashi bins - this means the kitchen scraps go into a fermenter near the back door and only when fermented are they either buried to feed the plants or added to the garden compost.Even then, taking out scraps after preparing every meal is a bit of a chore so I have bought this Stainless Steel compost bin. It's well constructed, attractive enough to be accepted by the missus, and when closed it has a very tight seal that should minimise odours. The idea is that scraps will go in after every meal - maybe even with some bokashi bran to start the fermentation process - and then transferred to the bokashi bins every two to three days.Fingers crossed that we'll stick at it this time.

keeps the kitchen odorless and it takes a couple of days to fill up and then the contents need to be transferred into a big composting pit or utility, so make sure you have that first
