In the beginning, it was working great, making beautiful balls. Then after some time of using, it started making weird noises and the ball is all messed up. Makes me very angry, because I wind the yarns for the design photography. I changed my rating to 2 stars because Amazon customer service responded and reacted fast. I returned the item and got my money back. I recently purchased the metal version of the ball winder and very happy with it!

My other half can’t recommend this enough for multiple reasons.She crochets a lot and wanted this to be able to create “cakes” with the balls of yarn she already has.The instructions included are easy to read and understand. After putting it together (it comes in only two separate parts and it’s very basic to put together) you clamp it to a hard surface or table, feed the yarn through the loophole, attach it to the central cylinder and start winding it up.Before she bought a Wool Jeanie she did find that to easily wind it up she did have to unwind the whole ball first as the ball of yarn would just bounce around on the floor and sometimes stop the flow of the winding due to knotting etc.If you have a Wool Jeanie or something similar then you can just set that up next to it and wind cakes straight up without much fuss.It can be time consuming but making the balls into cakes means that they can be stored a lot easier and neater as they don’t roll around and take up less space too.She would highly recommend over the cheaper options as they look very flimsy. This is really sturdy and as long as you clamp it well, it doesn’t move at all. Sometimes the metal eyelet will move to the side as it doesn’t click into place (I don’t think any of them do) but if you set your yarn up just right then it doesn’t move as noticeably.

Makes beautiful yarn pancakes with very light tensions so no stretching of the yarn. Looks crazy when it is winding but it is works like a charm.
