A much better solution than messing about with pliers and drill extraction bits. Very well made!

I got this in desperation to try to remove a stuck Allen bolt on my moto after trying penetrating oil, heat, freeze spray and an impact screwdriver with no success. The bits are like twisted Allen keys with sharp edges and some serrations at the ends and are meant to grip in the socket to allow removal of damaged Allen bolts.. I originally ordered this (not laser branded but identical version) from somewhere else for half the price but they sent with postNL who lost it and lied about delivery (not an unusual experience with this carrier). As that was the only shipper the vendor used I got a refund and paid double and got this laser version through Amazon with next day delivery instead. Amazon were reliable as usual and it arrived promptly the next morning. The first issue is that if you want to use the bits with hand tools (always my starting point) rather than a drill/impact driver most of the bits are 1/4” hex (not square) drive. The other bigger bits are 10mm and an adapter is included for them. But no adapter is included for the smaller 1/4” hex drive bits. The 1/4” hex sockets fit screwdrivers but a screwdriver is not going to give you the leverage to get a stuck bolt out. Eventually after a lot of searching I found an old 1/4” hex socket (nearly all my tools are metric) that I had lying around so I could try with hand tools. The second issue is that when using it, whilst the bit gripped pretty well, ultimately it only succeeded in rounding the socket more.. Cue enough frustration to try it with my drill. Again it gripped but nothing moved. On turning the drill up to max torque it once again just rounded the socket more, the bolt stayed stuck. So I didn’t work for me in this situation. Obviously this is only one specific bolt that is clearly very stuck, so it might be worthwhile in other situations. But if you’re hoping for a miracle solution, this isn’t it. I’m not sure it would be any better than the much cheaper option of simply hammering in a sharpened torx bit in (I was tempted but didn’t try this thinking “right tool for right job”, sadly this kit was not the right tool for this job either). Hammered in torx bit would also have the advantage of more leverage from the wider bite point of the teeth and better alignment of the planes the force acts through - the whole issue with Allen bolts in the first place is that the socket is not wider than the thread and the planes the force operates on is also poorly aligned. Torx are better on both counts whereas this kit just replicates the Allen bit only with more bite…So I cannot really recommend this set. If you get it cheap ( €15 or so ) maybe it’s worth a shot if you’re desperate. But it didn’t work for me…I wish you all luck with your stuck fasteners!

ye they don't in high torque applications if low torque you might get lucky
