Just received it so I can't attest to its longevity, however my first impressions are -- expensive but worth it. Solid construction. Easy to fill with a cap that comes off easily yet snaps snugly into place to close. The handle folds down to allow under-faucet loading, but kept in the upright position while boiling it is made of non-metal material that doesn't get too hot to handle. It boils water quickly. The whistle is loud, much louder than my previous Kitchen Aid, loud enough to hear in the far rooms of the house (and I have hearing loss), and it folds back to a fixed position if you prefer boiling water without the whistle. The opening is wide enough to put your hand all the way in for a thorough cleaning if it ever need it. The bottom is sufficently wide to cover the gas flame completely, so the flames don't come up over the sides even at full open flame. My only complaint, a minor one, is that it came with the scan sticker and a "made in Thailand" sticker firmly stuck on the bottom. I didn't want to use the kettle before removing them, which wasn't easy --- the trick is to use Windex and a tuffy scrubber -- comes right off. But how dumb is it to put a paper sticker very hard to remove on the bottom of something going on the stove? Aside from that, a very intelligent design.

I've only had this kettle for 3 weeks, but have used it daily, sometimes two or three times a day. I've not noticed any dripping or difficulty pouring. The handle stays cool and the top comes off with a bit of a tug - I like that there's a little resistance, but your mileage may vary. I have a lot of pain in my hands but it is not enough to give me difficulty. It fills very easily. The whistle is not train-loud (like my mother's older Chantal kettle) but is loud enough for our small house. I am usually quite close to the stove while using it, but have been able to hear it upstairs as well. It's a bit thin and wavering especially at the beginning but is charming in my opinion. I've accidentally clunked it a couple times and was worried about chipping, but it's still in one piece. I like the weight of it as well. It isn't heavy but it doesn't feel cheap.I am concerned about possible future rusting as I don't dry it thoroughly after every use, but I do try to dry around the inside of the lid and the spout.Aesthetically it is GORGEOUS. I love the shape of this kettle, and the color matches my canisters perfectly.It was only 12£ more than the red kettle in our local kitchen store. Not a huge price to pay for the added benefits of the design and color. I'd recommend it but am grateful for the more critical reviews.Updated September 2013. We've now had the kettle for a little over a year and despite daily use and almost never drying it off at all (let alone thoroughly, or after use, just its once a week washing), it hasn't rusted, hasn't chipped, doesn't drip, and continues to have a pleasing, loud-enough-for-me whistle. A very good kettle.Updated June 2016 - the kettle is still going strong with no rust or chipping.Updated August 2018 - Alas, the kettle has now developed rust on the inside, where the spout connects to the body. Otherwise it is still perfect, and it seems to have come on rather quickly...I can't think of anything I was doing differently. It's disappointing.

Beautiful design and quality tea kettle. I am very picky and read all the reviews, hesitated a bit when I read there was a big Le Creuset name on the side, but it turns out to be just a sticker, so glad about that. The lid is tight but it keeps the steam from escaping so that the handle remains cool. I think the folding handle is one of the best features that you don't see in many kettles. So thoughtful, easy to wash and fill by getting the handle out of the way. There was only one surprise item for me and that was the color. I ordered orange and loved how it was graduated color. When I opened the box, the color was named 'volcano' and was much brighter than pictured. It actually looked just like the 'flame' mug in the 'frequently bought together' area below the order now button. It is fine, closer to red, a cheery addition and an eye catcher on my stove!
