I have been vacillating for a very long time on a decision to purchase this item.I love my plants, but I love my floors even more; although there are many similar items on the market today, my research took around 7 months before I decided to purchase this first Lechuza CUBICO Self-Watering planter.This items is exactly what is described, it is an elegant, simple, and modern solution for a planters in a modern home. If you wish, you can use your own substrate, but it actually comes complete with the right amount needed. There is very little one can say about a good product, and good design, so the best way to do it, would be the if I list you all the "pros" & "cons" on this topic.Word of advice:Look at the sizes carefully, and make sure you are choosing the correct size, for correct plant, and for appropriate decor.I bought CUBICO 22, one of the smaller ones, and I think eventually I will need to upgrade to CUBICO 30, for the larger variety.CUBICO 22 is ideal to be placed on a small bench or larger table, or credenza, it still looks very appealing free standing on the floor, but it certainly can become overwhelmed by the plants, and can possibly overturn if the plant grows too large.PROS:Elegant, Beautiful, Useful, Great Design, Functional, Versatile in application, and will certainly last years with good care.CONS:Indeed, it is a bit crazy what we pay for it; When you tell people that you paid $50, $80, or $130 for a planter they may look at you funny and suggest counseling. However, it is what it is, wish it was more affordable.UPDATE: October 29th, 2016.Great product, plants are thriving, and one thing I want to add as part of additional information is this: Please follow the instructions on how to plant your plant correctly. In order to derive any benefit from the planter, the root system of your plant must have access to the reservoir; as such, you must water your plant over the soil for a period of at least 90 days, as you normally would, to allow the roots to reach the reservoir, or alternatively, plant the plant deeper, where the roots are closer to the bottom of the liner, where they can reach the moisture sooner.Also, understand that this is not an outdoor garden, and as such, you must mix the soil correctly with right amount of vermiculite, or perlite, to prevent soil compacting and becoming too hard, and also in aiding in aeration and moisture retention. And, obviously, use correct amount of fertilizer. All and all a great planter if you do things correctly - an absolute marvel. I bought two more CUBICO 40, for some of my other plants, to be replanted before winter for indoors.
