Legere Sopraan Sax Signature 3

I use strength 3 Legere reeds on both my soprano and alto mouthpieces (Selmer Soloist for both). I am supremely happy. I dehydrate very easily, and while I prefer cane reeds, I was finding it difficult to keep them wet enough to be responsive. Much less, finding good ones, weeding out bad ones, getting enough play time to work them in properly, and then take care of them. Enter synthetic, and it completely solves my problems.I won't lie, you need a solid embouchure to take advantage of these. Because they are so responsive, if you're not in control of what you're doing the sound can go very wonky very fast. But if you really work on your setup you can get a nearly identical sound on these to a good cane reed. Is it exactly the same? No. Can you (the player) tell? Yes. You can feel the plastic resonating in a different way. Can other people tell when they hear you? The jury is out on that; it seems to be a mix of opinions, but in general I would say the answer is no.They are expensive, but considering I've played on a single reed for 1.5 years now, it's an easy economical decision compared to the several boxes of reeds I'd have gone through. Would I get one for my child? Probably not; they don't take care of stuff and it would get broken within the week. But if you like the idea of just picking up your horn and playing right away without any reed soaking or other nonsense, this is honestly the way to go.They last incredibly long. I could probably use this for another year at least... but, I do notice a slightly differing sound on it now, where it seems to have a dead zone. Much like on a really good cane reed, how the sound just starts to flatten out when the reed starts getting old. I've heard you can still take a reed stick or sandpaper to these to brighten it up, but honestly I'll probably just grab another, and then I have this as backup. As to sizing, I went from a La Vox MH on my soprano to a Legere 3 and it feels right even if it's probably slightly softer. On my alto I went from a Vandoren blue box 3 to a Legere 3 and it is perfect.I think the only annoyance I have is because it's plastic, it likes to slide around on the mouthpiece more when setting it up. Takes a bit longer than arranging a cane reed, but given I spend zero time working a reed up into playing, there's still a huge time savings.

My favorite kind of reeds. Excellent quality. The humidity or the weather conditions are no longer a problem, the reed is always good!

The Signature reeds are very good. I’ve been using them on all my instruments for several years. Unfortunately the one I received from Amazon was in an open package and did not play ‘right’. This was a soprano sax #3 reed. I tried it several times to no avail, so I returned it and bought a couple from another retailer. The replacement reed played exactly as it should. On a positive note, Amazon made it very easy to return the defective reedThe only reason I didn’t give the reed five stars is because of the defective sample that I received.

I still prefer the use of cane, but these reads are amazing for practicing especially more Advanced Techniques like slap tonguing. Make sure you know what size read you need, I recommend going down at least a half size to get used to the synthetic material.
