Not a lot to add to what other people have said, so I'll focus on the positives for wide calved ladies like myself. Having tried some cheaper ones from a well known auction site, which arrived looking like they'd been through the wars, these turned up well packed and ready to go. Squeezing the handle causes the front and back plate to shrink in towards the central stem, allowing them to slip into narrow calf boots. However, squishing into narrow calved boots is not a problem I have, since I'm cursed with wide calves and my footwear reflects that. I tried these out on extra wide calf Dublin boots (On the left in my line up) which have a calf width of 47cm, a wide fitting pair of Heavenly Feet boots with a calf width of 44cm (On the right of the photo), and some standard calf width El Naturalista boots (In the centre of the photo) which I love but rarely get to wear. For the really wide Dublins, the boot tree just fell in. It does seem to be doing the job of keeping the boot upright, even though the plates don't really make contact with the internal area of the boots. Obviously, I couldn't pick the boots up using the boot tree though - they just slipped out in my hand. For the Heavenly Feet boots, the boot trees did a great job. The plates made contact with the front and back of the calf area, and had enough pressure that if I picked up the boot tree, the boot came with it. Brilliant. The standard calf width boots were not a problem at all. I think they were just pleased to have something which kept them from falling over at last!Overall, yes, I'm pleased with these. They do what they're supposed to do easily for boots with a calf width of up to 44cm. Any wider and they're no better than putting a stick inside your boots, and you'd probably want to look up an alternative which can cope with that. I can say with some certainty that you get what you pay for. These do a great job. I wish they weren't so expensive, but such is the price of having a boot collection far bigger than I should ;)
