Metal seems much harder than I expect for 304 stainless out of China. Trimming was a little hard (burned up a saber saw blade, but Sawzall blade did fine). The steel hardness made cleanup of cut threads with a file very easy, no need to pick through the leading thread groove with a chisel to straighten the thread walls.

These u bolts held up great holding down a roof rack platform to my Thule roof rack on a drive from Southern California to Northern California. Solid and strong.
