I purchased this Makita tool to use in an open pit mine, and so far it works perfectly. However, I've only used it for 6-days, and time will tell if it holds up like my Hilti cordless demolition and rotary hammers. It's light weight, about 23 pounds, less the weight of the drill bit, and is perfect for drilling and chiseling into hard rock. One feature the Makita offers that Hilti lacks, is a speed controller that is perfect for working around sensitive mineral specimens. The slower speeds allow close work with less danger of cracking the pieces you're after. It's easy to hold at unusual angles, especially perpendicular to rock walls. I'm using it, along with the Makita 45 lb. demolition hammer with a 4500 watt inverter generator, which has a 5-bar led readout that indicates the power consumption during usage. I'm averaging about 2-bars of consumption when using the demolition hammer at it highest setting. Its low consumption of energy allows my generator to run for 8-12 hours on less than a 2-gallon tank of gasoline.I'll update this review after I've used it more extensively, but if it holds up, I will favor it over my Hilti demo drills.1-year update—The tool is performing exceptionally with no signs of wearing out. I've changed from Makita-brand bits to Bosch as the demolition bits from Makita break readily. No breakage with any of my Bosch bits. I highly recommend the Makita demolition tools. They're powerful and reliable. I downsized to a 4250 W generator to keep the weight at 90 pounds, and it easily powers the Makita tools. From time-to-time, Amazon offers exceptional pricing on some of these tools.
