I replaced the stock transmission pulley on a John Deere L118 to eliminate squeaks caused by worn bearings. The pulley worked well to renew the drive train.

I own a Murray with a 14.5 Briggs and a 40" deck. One day it would not go into forward or reverse. Upon further examination it was revealed that the original plastic idler had shattered, leaving no tension to the drive belt, so I ordered up one of these and new belts.Although it is an exact replacement, I wish they would have upgraded the product and made it of something a bit sturdier, perhaps metal. I feel this one will probably suffer the same fate as the first one at some point. Therefore, 4 stars.Also, it's sort of on the fiddly side to replace a drive belt on this mower. First you have to drop and remove the deck, which is not too bad, removing a few clips gets that done. Then it's about getting the mower onto ramps and jack stands so you can get under it. Now the real fun begins, involving not only removing the old idler, but separating the steering column and then a bit by the transmission, so that you can feed the new belt into place.On my mower there was a little metal sleeve or reducer that fits in the center bore of the idler so that it fits the shaft mount in my application. Don't lose the old one, or you'll be fabricating.Mow on, my friends!
