CONSTRUCTION: Construction is light weight. Initially it feels flimsy but the plastic arms are more than adequate for the job and my expectation is that it will not break. The lenses are plastic. Like all plastic lens they will probably scratch if mishandled but then also will a pair of plastic lens glasses!FUNCTIONALITY: It works well. I use it frequently and each time I find that the clarity of the lens and the magnification are excellent. Some reviewers of other headband magnifiers have commented that they have seen some distortion / blueness in the peripheral image. I have not noticed any issue with these. Indeed I believe that anyone expecting no distortion from any type of magnifier at the periphery is not being realistic. Especially if the magnifier is not ranked as a high spec optical device costing many many times the price of normal headband magnifiers sold as consumer items.Lens replacement is straight forward and the lens seems to be held in place firmly. However, the lens is held in place by friction and needs to be pushed down into the slotted frame. I can foresee that regular and rough lens insertions could reduce this friction making the lens less tight in the holder. I suspect that this might be a problem with all consumer headband magnifiers in general unless the design used a system for clipping the lens into the holder. HOWEVER, this is a low cost magnifier and I did not expect lens attachment to be anything but by friction. If you want a clip in lens spend more.IN-USE: In use it is comfortable to wear and light weight. It does not slip on my head. Changing the lens is straightforward.Identifying which lens is easy when you know where to look - but you might need a bright light and magnifying glass to read the magnification. It took some while for me to find where the magnification was marked. It is at in the center of one of the long edges just between the two lens areas. Putting the lens against a dark background helps this become visible. The focal length is good - I use the maximum magnification and have no problem using tools.STORAGE: The headband does not come with any storage which will protect it or the lenses from damaged when stored. At this price I was not expecting any. To keep the lenses in good unscratched condition will require some form of protective storage to be used.GLASSES: The headband can be worn with glasses.IF YOU WEAR glasses you will most likely need to wear them when using the headband. I initially used the magnifier without glasses but when used for any length of time I got eye strain. I put this down to the prescription in each eye being different and hence my eyes where trying to correct themselves. Wearing my distance glasses stopped this and IMPROVED the image. I dont think this is a problem peculiar to this magnifier headband. Unless it is possible to fine tune the magnification in each eye it will happen with any headband magnifier. Wearing my glasses with the magnifier made the image much clearer and possible slightly larger.PROS AND CONS:There are a plethora of headband magnifiers on the internet. At a consumer level these seem to be very similar. Most offer several lenses and a head torch. All are more expensive than this.HEADBAND FIXING VERSUS TRADITIONAL GLASSES ARMS: This headband magnifier used a "headband" rather than glasses arms. This is a major advantage if you wear glasses (see my note above) . My wife purchased a headband magnifier which used arms. I tried this and the problem was exactly the problem you have when wearing two pairs of glasses - you have two pairs of glasses arms behind you ears and two nose bridges on you nose meaning neither your glasses or the magnifier fit well or are secure.LIGHT: For me a head torch was a negative factor. I have no problem using this magnifier with a separate light source. In fact I found its small size was an advantage in that I could be close up to the work and turn my head freely. I choose this unit as I believed a head torch would add weight to the headband making it uncomfortable to wear, batteries will need to be replaced/charged meaning if I used the magnifier infrequently it would be unlikely to have fully charged batteries. I was also concerned that the light would not be able to be pointed in the best direction to illuminate the work.SIZE & WEIGHT: I have found that with this headband I can move my head freely without the headband knocking into the work or the lights I use. All other head bands especially those with a light attached seemed bulky and cumbersome. I was concerned that being so large they would foul on the work or lights or other equipment when I was doing close work. Again I was able to compare this magnifier to the one my wife purchased and much prefer the weight of this one. It can be worn for long periods without discomfort.FOCAL LENGTH: Focal length was an concern in my selection. In use with the largest magnification I have found the focal length (that is distance from object being viewed) is more than adequate for allowing me to solder and work with tools. I was able to find a specification on another suppliers web site which quoted typical focal lengths for the lenses.PROFESSIONAL: I wanted a magnifier which was not a toy. This magnifier is also advertised on an industrial equipment/component suppliers web site (search Farnell) which suggests that it is a least good enough for light professional use.
