The paper in it is very smooth, graphite pencils show almost no texture in it, which might be appealing to some people. I use it with fountain pens, Pilot brush pen, Pilot V5 pens, microns, graphite pencils, Neocolors I and II in light layers. But mostly sketching and writing. I really enjoy the overall experience with Moleskine sketchbooks, the round corners, the number of pages and vanilla color of the paper. The paper holds up well unless you have a heavy hand and erase numerous times. If you do you will notice a bit of roughness on the surface, and sometimes the marks of the pencil. I paint many times with a light watercolor on top of some pencil sketches to help the graphite stick to the paper, but it's minimal and just one go. The paper will buckle and takes time to dry, but this is not meant for watercolor at all, is doable but not all the time.Alcohol markers do bleed through, if you sketch quickly and no more than twice on the same spot you probably will be ok. The grays for some reason work better than most colors, must be the pigment size or load.This sketchbooks have been great for me, this A3 is a mammoth of a book but I love it for that reason, I can sketch and write notes and paste an article and sketch more and have lots of room to develop more of the same idea in a big size. I really enjoy this sketchbooks, the covers do stay put and the paper does work as a sketchbook.2 Stars for the way it was shipped, bouncing and without padding or protection inside an over sized box that arrived beat up. I had 3 Moleskine A3 size sketchbooks all badly damaged on 1 corner. I sadly returned them. The only reason I ordered them here was because one was out of stock where I usually order from. Considering the prices are the same I won't take another chance on Amazon. Other retailers ship art products way more secure than here.

I have struggled for YEARS to find a sketchbook that matched everything I needed it for, and this is a dream come true! It's $$$, however, the money I've spent on failed sketchbooks over the years is A LOT more than this costs! The size is fabulous! I lack storage space, and was tired of having canvases and random papers lying around which made my space too cluttered. I needed something in sketchbook form that folded away when I wasn't using it. I've never owned a moleskine and was pleased to see that the pages are on the thick side and the cover is sturdy. I've been using acrylic and oil paint in this sketchbook and it's holding up SO WELL! (I do prep the pages with 4 coats of gesso). This has revolutionized my painting practice! When fully open the double page is close to a 16x20 canvas and allows me room to paint as if painting on canvas. Glad I've tried this sketchbook as it's helping me try out oil paint and test new ideas. Will use this sketchbook brand exclusively in the future!

For the love of god, please do not buy this for painting. This is not painting paper at all. I would also suggest you actually get a good idea of the sizes before buying. Bonus: book marks, good paper, and binder to keep it closed.
