De Italiaanse autocoureur Gianpiero Moretti richtte MOMO op in 1964 nadat hij een lokale vakman de opdracht gaf om een aangepast stuurwiel voor zijn eigen raceauto te produceren. Dit speciale stuurwiel – het eerste MOMOMO-stuurwiel in de geschiedenis van het bedrijf – had een superieure grip in vergelijking met traditionele racestuurwielen uit die tijd. Bestuurders van andere teams merkten al snel Moretti's nieuwe stuur op en wilden hetzelfde voor hun auto's, en het Moretti-stuur kreeg snel bekendheid in de racegemeenschap. Het stuur trok ook de aandacht van Ferrari Formule 1-coureur John Surtees, die het op zijn eenzitterauto wilde monteren. John Surtees' Ferrari, uitgerust met Moretti's racestuurwiel, won in 1964 de wereldtitel Formule 1. Gianpiero Moretti veranderde zijn passie in een productierealiteit, en MOMO (afkorting van Moretti Monza) werd geboren.

This was a present for my son’s Triumph Herald, we ordered the specific Momo steering wheel boss for the car from elsewhere and the two items fitted perfectly. The steering wheel is really well made with a high quality look and feel. The colour of the wood compliments the dashboard and the centre horn push works a treat.
