The Moondrop Discdream 2 Ultra CD player is worth every single penny in gold. It's gorgeously build, it's beautiful too look at and it's absolutely great funny tu use it. Fit and finish is up to the level of the Hi End audio equipment that costs thousands of dollars more. It's machined aluminum brushed finish is impeccable. Esthetically and functionalilly, there is nothing that's not absolutely perfect. Its true joy to use it and look at it.Now, the most important thing, sound.This little wander player is punching way about its pay grade. There is nothing that's missing from its performance that will impede listening experience and enjoyments in comparison with much more expensive players. It has plenty of power todrive every headphones that I can imagine. It's sound is perfectly neutral without being dull or boring. The hights are crispy clear and excellently extended without being sharp or glaring. The lows are brilliantly transparent and controlled, as is the entire sound picture through entire spectrum. Mid-range is the forte of this little gem! Vocals are rounded and full. Sound stage is wide and deep, the true three dimensional experience and ambient's characteristics are very well presented if the recording at hand has it. There is plenty of details and separation between instruments is so good that on good recordings there is no trace of congestions or muddiness. What's particularly impressive is reproduction of instruments true timber. Also, there is plenty of dynamic range and this player is very agile, quick, energetc and engaging with good headphones.All in all, I don't think that there is anything more that we can expect from this little audio gem.Certainly, even after comparison with my hi end home headphone system, I'm not missing anything that will make my listening experience to faltered.And in my home system only interconnects costs twice than this CD player.Highly recommended. Worth every penny I paid for it.

This is a fantastic CD player! It is a tad on the expensive side but for what it does, it is a bargain. I opted for this one primarily because I intend on using this CD player long term and love the fact that it is very portable/transferable!Sounds great to my ear and I love that it is actually made out of stuff instead of cheap plastic. Here's to many years of music listening via CD!

Bought this on a total whim as I had owned a portable Sony Discman D-EJ2000 player all the way back in 2008. Sadly I was daft enough to sell it at a time of cash flow issues.So I'd been on streaming or ripped CDs via my laptop ever since my last relationship ended in 2012 I spotted this player I'd never heard of of and promptly bought.It is made out of a block of milled aircraft aluminium and is a work of art. Thr ladies and gents at Moondrop (???!!) have most certainly got this bit right. It is suplied with a USB-A to USB-C cable and that's your lot. No charger, headphones, optical lead..a bit stingy for this price.It is probably best described as transportable rather thwn portable as it is big,bulky and heavy. A million miles away from the aforementioned Discman I had . Functionality is very basic. Everything is controlled by the front panel buttons. No remote, at least none that I know of. But the display whilst small is legible and clearly presented.As far as the sound quality goes. If you want this purely as a playback device then it is BRILLIANT ! have a pair of Cleer Audio Next headphones and the sound is fantastic, goes deafening loud and the sound IMHO could be described as detailed albeit a bit smooth.So far so goodSo why not a full five stars?Because Moondrop could have had a retro stroke of genius on their hands had they done just a few things.Firstly why is the USB-C unable to output as well as input a signal? I would have loved to have plugged it into my iFi Gryphon or Diablo DAC but find it needs to go in via a Toslinl optical cable. That shouldn't be the case and it means the biggest thing it could have been ie enabling a modern laptop to rip CDs but it can't do that.Then there's lack of remote which hinders it's use for use as the basis of a CD based system with active speakers. Volume will be ok but what about CD track selection?A few other foibles are present like no power source apart from the rechargeable battery, no CD Text, no MQA playback (yes there are MQA CDs available in Japan) it is also extremely fussy about CD cleanliness . The slightest bit of dirt and it skips and splutters, And no battery life indication...But even so it is BRILLIANT when it comes to it's primary purpose.So it's almost a masterpiece but as it is it is a flawed gem.I'm sure that Moondrop can deal with these concerns in a theoretical Discdream 3 Ultra.Who knows? This unit may well be able to tap into the (clean) vaults of all those forgotten CDs in most people's houses and start a whole new trend of retro listening. CDs are enjoying a revival and Moondrop may well be in pole position to take advantage of that.

Was für eine Freude!! Ich habe zig Jahre nach so einem tragbaren CD-Player gesucht. Da ich meine Musik fast nur über Köpfhörer genieße, mal im Wohnzimmer, mal in Arbeitszimmer, ersetzt mir dieser tolle HiFi CD-Player eine komplette Stereoanlage. KEIN Plastik, Kein wackeliger Deckel, KEINE Lautstärkebegrenzung. Das Display läßt sich gut ablesen, alles in allem ein sehr stabiler Player mit einem grandiosen Sound. Er ist sein Geld auf jeden Fall wert.

This is an outstanding CD player! I wanted something that's both built like a tank and sounds great. This CD player more than meets that criteria. It has a wealth of outputs minus Bluetooth of course.I can hook it up to my home system or take it on the go with a battery powered speaker. Its pretty much immuned to skipping. Do yourself a favor pay the price for this Moondrop Miracle.This the CD player that I've been waiting for all my life. : )-----------Edit-----------Shortly after my raving review of this CD player it stopped working. The lights would come on but no matter which CD I put in it would not spin. Very disappointed! I'll keep it at 5 stars for now. Could be just bad luck on my part.Hopefully the replacement will do better.----- Edit 2 -----The replacement has worked flawlessly. Very happy with this purchase!
