50 cedar balls, all about 2cm in width. They smell strongly of cedar and arrive with 2 small natural cotton muslin type draw string bags plus 2 small squares of sandpaper. The instructions say to lightly sand the cedar wood to reinvigorate the scent, hence the inclusion of the sandpaper. I have had cedar wooden rings before and they have held their scent for well over a year so I am hopeful I will not be sanding these down any time soon. The little bags are very useful to be able to put a few of the balls in these and hang them from a hanger of a wool coat or jacket in the wardrobe to prevent moths getting in and ruining them with small chewed holes.I will scatter the rest in the corners of the room on the carpet behind furniture, to prevent moths attacking the wool in the carpet, plus use some in the backs of the wardrobe to protect wool blankets and jumpers. There is a brief printed set of instructions on the cardboard box the item arrived in. It does say they are pet safe on the front but to keep out of the reach of pets and children on the back, maybe because cedar could be an irritant on skin or if rubbed into your eyes after handling?I am pleased to be able to use a more traditional method of moth repellent rather than spraying the atmosphere in my house with chemicals. I would not use plug in spray type repellents as wouldn't want the air in my house laden with those chemicals and worry about the effects these chemicals in the air have on asthmatic people or people with breathing issues. I much prefer this more subtle method of moth deterrent. A storage chest built of cedar wood was the ultimate traditional way to store wool blankets, but since I don't have that these will do instead.Very useful natural item with no unnecessary plastic either!

All 50 balls were present, all were undoubtedly ceder as given away by the very nice scent. Also they're as attractive as they appear in the photo and would look good mixed up in pot pourri or what have you.The bags are not quite the same as they appear in the pictures and actually better, having a drawstring top and being more permeable material. They fit 25 of the balls and probably not a single one more. The sandpaper is 240 grit which is appropriate. Here's my problem, which I didn't think about until reading the instructions. If sanding is required for maintenance - it specifies every few months - I don't want sandpaper and spheres, I want the flat disc shaped version so I can rub each side once or twice and be done. Spheres are a terrible shape for stiff paper, it's not so bad if you have a very flexible sanding sponge, but that's not what you're given.I've only marked them down a star because there may be a reason for spheres I'm not aware of, the thought does occur that they'll create their own air gaps in a bag which is important for maximum scent. But next time I think I'd go for the practical maintenance version, especially since the bag fit is so tight they don't move which is presumably more ideal if air gaps are useful. Bit of friction might wear them down naturally I don't know.Whether it beats the critters, well that's up to them.

I ordered this pack of cedar wood mothballs from the Amazon brand ZIDINA. As well as the 50 wooden balls you receive 2 x muslin-type nags, and 2 x pieces of sandpaper. The wooden cedar wood balls are infused with essential oils ( not supplied), and this can be topped up and/or refreshed using the sanding paper - a perpetual way of renewing the protection offered. The smell when you open the package is pretty strong although I don't really smell it round the house now they are unpacked to be honest. Hopefully any stray moths do pick up on it, however.I much prefer to use a natural deterrent rather than chemicals in pest sprays. Unfortunately I don't hink we are out of chemical methods just yet but hopefully once we get to the deterrent part of our relationship with moths, these will be enough on their own in the dark corners and under beds.I think if you can deploy these as a deterrent or at the very first sign on a problem they are a much better more natural option. I've had wooden rings in the past and like those, I'll just give these a sand down once or twice a year to bring out the natural scent. The scent is lovely by they way - not sure why moths don't like it as much as I do!Five stars

I tested these Red Cedarwood MothballsHere's what I found...It is May and the wether has warmed up - so the peak time to protect your woolens. The best time of year to use mothballs is primarily in the spring and early summer, around April and May, which is when clothes moths become most active. This period marks the start of moth mating and egg-laying season, making it critical to protect your clothes before damage occurs.Red cedar works primarily as a repellent, deterring adult moths from laying eggs and discouraging larvae from feeding on fabrics due to its strong aroma and active compounds, such as cedrol and thujopsene.Pros ✅ Efficacy -- in trials, Red cedar matches or even exceeds the effectiveness of chemical mothballs in repelling moths, without the associated health and environmental risks.✅ Safety -- They replace chemical mothballs (such as those containing naphthalene or paradichlorobenzene) are highly effective due to their strong pesticidal vapours, they are toxic to humans and pets and have environmental drawbacks.Cons 👉 Scientific studies show that cedar oil can be toxic to moth larvae and eggs at certain concentrations. For example, a 1% concentration of cedar oil has been shown to kill larvae and inhibit egg hatching, and cedar chips can significantly reduce adult moth lifespan. However these don't seem to be anywhere near the concentration needed to kill the larvae. If you have them - you need much more powerful treatments than this - so this is prevention and not treatment.OVERALL - I like these - they have the classic cedar smell which I hope will deter the moths. They also give sandpaper - which you use to scrape the balls surface as they age to release more of the scent.I have put them in drawers and wardrobes wherever natural fibre clothes and bedclothes are stored. When you get these - can I suggest that you also put moth "traps" near your woollens and check them weekly - as those tell you if you have an active moth problem. Amazon has several different inexpensive ones on offer.Delivery was quick - they came the next day which is great service by the store. If I get any infestation in 2025 despite these I will be back to update my review. Was this a help?
