The product is glass. Be careful when opening it. Even though its packed with foam, it still showed up broken.

If you have no sense of adventure, you heat some water, pour it into a cup, and put in a teabag. Some people just put in loose tea and drink it from there, maybe with a sugar cube between their teeth if they're Russian.If you want to be fancy, you could brew the tea in a pot and pour it for yourself and your guests.But with this advanced equipment, you can brew the tea in one pot, open a valve to release it into a second pot, and pour from that pot into your cup! It's very attractive, and it actually works and is a pleasure to use. It's at least as good in person as in the pictures. Rube Goldberg would be jealous. His stuff was complicated, but it wasn't very attractive.They say all the glassware is "high borosilicate" but they don't say it's dishwasher safe, so I washed it by hand. But then I poured near-boiling water into the top pot to make chrysanthemum tea, and it didn't have any problem. The base is good and wide, it's plastic but looks like stained wood. The tree-branch and bird theme is well executed and works.To release some tea into the lower pot, slide that pot over until the handle touches the lower spout of the upper pot. The handle will attract the round ball bearing to the side, opening the hole for tea to pass through. The ball has the additional function of holding the upper steel strainer in place by magnetic attraction. Pull the lower pot away and the ball bearing drops back in to cover the hole and stop the flow. Then pour that tea out into cups. The tea in the upper pot, which has a glass cover, will stay hot longer and continue brewing. I know that chamomile flowers can keep producing for days if you add more hot water to them.It came very well and tightly packed in hard styrofoam and arrived in perfect condition. I'm saving the styrofoam in case we need to travel with the pot.
