I’ve got a blog where I compose a handwritten lead sheet daily which I then typeset and post along with an audio file. I use a fountain pen with a bona-ride music nib for composing because not only does it look much nicer, it keep me edgier as I compose because I know I’m setting this down with ink. I’ve tried numerous manuscript books and they ALL have page bleed through, even the ones like moleskine that promote their books as fountain pen friendly. This notebook is the real deal - the ink simply does not bleed through unless you REALLY blob it on and even then it’s not really an issue - see photo - that’s about as bad as it gets and that’s nothing compared to every other notebook I’ve tried. Plus, the ink really sits on top of the paper and shows it’s color gradations nicely. So why only four stars? Two issues I have with this notebook.1 - the cover is ugly. it looks like something a child would take to elementary school instead of a professional music book. Archive and moleskine look much better. I could ignore this is if it wasn’t for:2 - this isn’t a book, this is a pad. It’s not spiral bound or edge bound in any way, it’s perfect bound on the top edge which is far from perfect. When you fold the page over to use the reverse side, which is the whole point if you’re purchasing this for using with a fountain pen so it doesn’t bleed thru, it becomes un-bound on the top edge - pops off - you now have a loose sheet of paper. This is really unfortunate. I want to maintain notebooks which will keep my work in chronological order nicely collected, not pads of loose sheets. I understand the thinking of this as customarily notepads of high quality paper for fountain pen work such as Rhodia are all bound on the top edge so you’re not smearing your work with your left hand, but as this is first and foremost a music book, who wants to flip the book over and deal with loose pages when trying to read handwritten music? No one.I’ll probably still keep buying this because it really is great paper, but I’m sorely disappointed with the way the notepad falls apart when used.
