It arrived very sharp and ready to use. The handle is fine for the way in which most people will use this. I rarely hit my chisels with a mallet and wish they made a shorter version of this. One strange thing is that the entire blade was coated with a very thin plastic layer. I did not even notice this at first and it came off of the end the first time I stropped it. I am sure this layer is applied to prevent the chisel from rusting prior to delivery. It might just be me but I was disappointed that the Brand Label came off with the plastic layer but that is a small price to pay for a good tool.

Lieferung erfolgte sehr schnell.Habe mir dazu noch 2 andere Beitel bestellt.Es war eine super Transport Sicherung.Sie haben nur ein kleines Manko, die Griffe sind recht groß.Wie man mit den Beitel arbeiten kann,weis ich noch nicht.Werde es aber noch machen und dann dazu noch was schreiben.Nachtrag:Die Beitel lassen sich gut Überarbeiten (Spiegel polieren,Fase schärfen und Mikrofase schleifen).Dabei ist mir aufgefallen,das die Beitelgröße nicht eingeätzt oder gestanzt ist,sondern nur mit ein Aufkleber versehen ist.Aber da kann man sich ja die Größe in der Zwinge oder im Griffstück ritzen.

So, having used this chisel, I am not sure I knwknew what a good chisel was like. It was not sharp out of the box so I hgave the back a rub on a 300/1200 grit diamond stone. it is now flat at the chisel front and sides. Then I gave it the same treatment using a honing guide at 25° ... a quick strop and a couple of strokes on the back again, and this thing was cutting beautiful thin shavings ...it leaves an amazingly smooth finish - like nothing I have ever experienced with the inherited Austrian chisels and the Irwins I also have ... the build quality is very good though I am not sure whether I am meant to soak and then mushroom the wood above the hoop as it is a little uncomfortable at present when striking with my hand.otherwise, Thoroughly recommend this chisel, but shop around as I reckon you'll find it cheaper elsewhere even with delivery costs.
