I generally like Neewer products a lot, and this one was no different. It is a good tool for using the camera in bright light without fully blowing out the sky or taking pictures with water in the background. I find the lanyard useful for when you want to switch between filter and no filter without having to leave it in your camera back/pocket.

I picked up the NEEWER 77mm ND2-400 Variable ND Filter for my Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, mainly to shoot video and long-exposure photography in bright light without cranking up the shutter speed. I was looking for something affordable that wouldn't compromise too much on image quality—and this one really delivered. The build quality is better than I expected at this price point. It feels sturdy in hand with a smooth rotating mechanism that clicks into place confidently without being too loose or stiff. The included lens cap, lanyard, and cleaning cloth were thoughtful extras and made the package feel more premium than I anticipated. In terms of performance, the filter does a solid job reducing light across the advertised range of ND2 to ND400, roughly 1 to 9 stops. It’s been extremely helpful when shooting outdoors in direct sunlight, especially for maintaining a consistent aperture and shutter speed in video. I love how easy it is to adjust—there's just the right amount of resistance when turning the ring, so I never worry about accidentally changing the setting mid-shot. The multicoated glass really does help minimize reflections and glare, and I haven’t noticed any weird color casts or vignetting up to around the ND256 range. Beyond that, there's a very slight X-pattern if you're using ultra-wide angles, but that’s expected with variable ND filters at this level.Overall, this filter has become a permanent part of my camera bag. It’s lightweight, easy to use, and does what it promises without breaking the bank. If you’re a beginner or even a semi-pro looking for a reliable ND filter without spending hundreds, this is a great option. I wouldn’t use it for ultra-high-end commercial work where every pixel counts, but for travel, YouTube, and day-to-day shooting? It’s perfect. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore creative photography and video techniques in bright conditions.
