I originally wanted a NPF battery charger that was easy to use and can charge a few batteries at once. But then I got a job where I would need to use multiple cameras and external monitors to be powered via NPF batteries. So I ended up returning this charger and buying the same charge but comes with 4 NPF batteries. As I needed extra NPF batteries. The charger works great and I feel like it’s a good value for the money. Good build quality. Overall I’m happy with the charger but I just returned it so I can upgrade to the version that includes 4 NPF batteries.

This is my review of the "NEEWER NP-F970 4 Channel Charger"First Impressions: The NEEWER NP-F970 4 Channel Charger is well-built, lightweight, and compact. It has a sturdy design, and I like that it can charge up to four batteries simultaneously, which is perfect for long shoots when multiple devices require power. The OLED display provides real-time status updates on the charging progress, including voltage, current, and temperature, which adds a nice touch for monitoring the process. It feels like a high-quality, efficient charger right out of the box. It packs a serious heft to it compared to similar 4-bay NP-F chargers, and feels incredibly solid.Function: This charger works seamlessly with Sony NP-F series batteries, including the NP-F550, NP-F750, and NP-F970, offering 3 different output levels (8.4V/0.9A, 8.4V/1.8A, 8.4V/2.5A) to optimize charging for each battery type. The included fast charging cable and PD support make charging much faster, especially when using a 100W PD charger. The compact size makes it easy to toss in your camera bag, and the built-in fan and ventilation holes help keep things cool. The charger also has an undervoltage activation function, which helps restore batteries that have fallen into sleep mode due to low voltage. One downside is that some of my NP-F970 batteries don't charge at full speed—while most charge at 24W, a few are only hitting around 19W (measured using a USB-C tester inline with the charger). This doesn't seem to be an issue with the charger itself, as not all of my batteries behave this way, so it may be related to the individual batteries.Loves:OLED display for real-time monitoring of battery voltage, current, temperature, and power.Compact and lightweight design makes it portable and easy to carry in my gear bag.Fast charging capabilities with PD support, especially when using a 100W PD charger.Undervoltage activation function to restore low voltage batteries to full performance. The ability to charge up to four batteries simultaneously, which is a huge time-saver on long shoots.Cooling fan and ventilation holes to prevent overheating during charging.Hates:Some NP-F970 batteries don't charge at full speed, limiting output to about 19W instead of the expected 24W—likely due to the batteries themselves, not the charger.Overall: This charger is a solid, reliable addition to my kit. It provides fast charging, a clear display, and the convenience of charging multiple batteries at once, which is great for extended shoots. The minor inconsistency in charging speed with some batteries is a slight drawback, but it doesn't take away from the overall quality and functionality. Given its price and the convenience of charging multiple batteries at once, I think this charger offers great value for anyone using NP-F batteries regularly.

Once you see the unfortunate design choice here, it’s hard to unsee and it just sours the experience. It was presumptively unintentional, and yet it really needs to change.Other than that, it is a compact charger that works for my NP-F559 and NP-F750 batteries that I seem to have amassed. It’s neat to have the OLED display and USB-C 100W PD on a charging base, which seems to enhance the premium feel of this. It seems to work with all of my batteries without overheating or unbalanced charging, even though I’m not a power user, I still like to have my batteries ready to go for the lights that I use with them. The charging speed is fast enough that I don’t even notice, and the build quality is good enough for me!I also appreciate that they actually include a charging cable, so I don’t have to use one of mine. Seems to be rare these days, so I appreciate this as it adds to the value and overall user experience.Again: the design has to change though.I hope this helps!

Frankly, I was amazed when I saw this product. It is unbelievable to me that there is a brand-new charger that supports a battery type that came out more than three decades ago. And more so, that other vendors are selling new batteries in this format, and apparently devices to use them too: LED video lights, field monitors, transmitters, and motorized camera sliders, etc.Instructions warn to "Charge the rechargeable battery only with the charger supplied with the unit" - but, no charger is provided, only a USB-C cable. It also warns, "Do not pound, throw, or step on the battery or subject it to severe physical shock". So, well, don't do that, nor any of the other highly-unlikely things it warns against doing. One curious warning though... "Do not mix old and new batteries or use different types of batteries together". It is not clear from this what "type" means. Are NP-F950 and NP-F550, different types? Or are they the same type; but, different model/capacity? Aside from warnings, the instructions provide no actual instructions.FEATURESThere's a very nice OLED display that shows the battery charge status or the current input power being drawn by the charger. There's a small switch that's near impossible to see that you push to turn the display on or change what it shows. The charge status display indicates the CH (channel) that it applies to, but the labels for these are also near impossible to read on the unit, and they count counter-clockwise, which is, well, counter-intuitive. There are three states to the status display: charging progress (flashing 4 segments), standby (non-flashing, no segments), error (flashing, no segments). The device has two sensor switches on each slot for the device to determine the size battery that's been installed. The instructions indicate they are push switches to set the charging current; but, this is nonsense. You just install the batteries in the slots and they depress the sensor(s) automatically. NP-F950: 2 sensors, NP-F750: 1 sensor, NP-F550: no sensors.CHARGE TESTINGThis charger will adapt to the input power level - 20V/5A = 100W is recommended. If there is sufficient power, all batteries will charge simultaneously. If limited power, batteries will charge in sequence. Any batteries for which there is insufficient power will be in standby, until power is available.I began testing this with Sony batteries from a VX-2000 and some other video devices from that time period, easily 20-25 years old. This didn't go very well. An NP-F550 was not even detected. An NP-F750 indicated it was already 100% charged - Sony is known for making advanced technology, but even they couldn't make a battery that would hold 100% charge over a decade or more. Another NP-F750 indicated error status. On the success side though, an NP-F950 was detected and charged. All of these batteries were able to be charged on a Sony charger, and after doing so, this device recognized them all as fully charged, except for the NP-F550 which it detected but only displayed standby status and never started to charge it.INPUT POWER: 30WNext I tested with two brand new Anser NP-F950 batteries - spec'd as 8800mAh - but tested as being 10,666mAh. Both, out of the package, needed only a short period of time charging to bring to 100%. After running down one of these batteries to 0%, I put it on this charger. It reported 100% charge, which was definitely not the case. I had to remove and reinstall it a couple times before it read it as 0% and then started charging. It started drawing 11.3V increasing to 11.9V @ 1.4A - 1.6A a majority of the time, then decreasing over the last 25%, working its way down to 0.1A until it completed after 3h37m. With two of these batteries they charged in sequence and took roughly double the time.INPUT POWER: 100WWith two Anser NP-F950 batteries there was sufficient power to charge them simultaneously. It started drawing 19.93V @ 1.8A, increasing to 20V @ 2A, and then maintained this a majority of the time, then decreasing over the last 25%, working its way down to 0.1A until it completed after 4h.

This is an excellent charger for multiple NP-F style batteries. It charges up to four batteries simultaneously, and does it very quickly with 100 watts of power. Note that while a 100 watt-capable USB-C cable is included, a USB-C charger/power supply is not.The unique vertical-insertion design of this charger lets you charge any size of NP-F battery, even the huge ones. The charger uses little micro-switches to detect the size of the battery to ensure it charges properly.I really like the charger's informative OLED screen. As soon as you plug in a battery, it shows you what's going on in real time and displays the voltage, current, temperature, and power for each one. It's a good way to keep an eye on the charging process, but WHY they chose to bury the screen in the middle of the charger where it is mostly obscured when batteries are inserted is a mystery. This is a rare design fail for Neewer, but cannot take away from just how great this charger is.
