I’ve tried a number of different Soft box set ups for flash. This is by far best one so far.Sure, Magmod is excellent But currently out of my price range. These are soft boxes are robust, quick to set up and can be used handheld or on a tripod.Highly recommended

It may be mostly plastic but it is solid plastic and has metal where it counts. It holds the new breed of speedlights firmly and I have confidence that it will not slip out. Sadly my old Vivitars do not fit. It has extremely firm detents on the angle adjustment. At first you might think this is a bit of a negative but if you are putting medium to large softboxes on, that detent resistance with the large tightening lever will ensure it will not slip and tilt down from it's own weight. The Bowen's locking mechanism works as expected. The umbrella holder also functions as expected but it is important to note, the screw nut is threaded directly into the plastic body. I don't think this will be a long term problem with small lightweight umbrellas but it may be for big heavy ones. The biggest problem with this bracket is that you can't use an umbrella with a standard reflector. The holes do not line up. No biggie. Take the reflector off and just use the umbrella. You are really buying this for the Bowens mount. The umbrella holder is just a bonus. 5 stars... especially when you factor in the price.

I've had a set of these mounts for nearly a year (purchased May 2016). Before that, I'd been mounting my flashes on my tripods by their included plastic stands/bases. They ended up being stripped (many still had plastic thread screws so they quickly lost tightness), wobbly, and if/when the stand was knocked over by a drunk guest, the flash was likely to snap off or take a big hit itself.I purchased this mount for a number of reasons. The first, immediate reason was for easy mounting/unmounting. Instead of screwing a flash unit to a stand, I preferred the easier method of slipping the flash head into the bracket and clamping it down quickly. I could also tilt the flash body down at 90 degrees from the head so I could see the IR light blinking, or view and change the settings on the back of the flash.Tilting the bracket for angled lighting was easy, too, with the large plastic handle on the side. Admittedly, it's a little stiff and cranks in small jerks and starts, but on the other hand, it's firm and doesn't sag. This is especially important when using a heavy attachment, so you know it won't drift.I also like the "protective" halo of the bracket. I've had a flash stand fall once, and the bracket took the brunt of the hit on the side, not the flash itself. Just a small degree of peace of mind when people are stumbling around the reception of a wedding. And of course, I also bought the brackets for the future use of umbrellas and beauty dishes, both of which I purchased later and have used with these brackets. Their versatility have allowed me to easily and quickly adjust to whatever lighting I need for the situation. I like there's no changing or fiddling. Just pop open an umbrella or screw on a dish and go.The only downside is it can make a stand feel a little top heavy, especially when extended full height and/or with the bracket tilted back to bounce the flash up off of a ceiling. The weight distribution can be a little off center, but with a wide base, and even using sandbags when shooting outdoors in windy conditions, the likelihood of it falling over is small. The other minor thing is when I opt to use an attachment, like my FlashBender, it takes some finessing to make it fit. It's a little thick on the relatively larger heads of my Yongnuo 600 flashes, and the added thickness of the Bender means it can't be put on the flash and then slid through the bracket. First, the flash must be slid through as far as it can, the Bender attached, and then positioned and clamped. Not a huge issue as I don't use my Bender all of the time, but one that takes a minute to work with.Overall, I have 4 of these brackets and if I extend my arsenal, I will buy more.
