This is a genuine Nikon product, packaged in a Nikon box and looking and feeling very high quality. Being bayonet fitting it is very quick to attach. Not only does this lens hood help prevent sunlight causing flare on your pictures, it also protects the lens. And the clever bayonet design lets you put it on the lens in reverse for storage, which also helps protect the body of the lens.Some reviewers have said this is hard plastic. I don't agree. There are plastic equivalents on Amazon, but they are much cheaper. This is made from spun aluminium, and coated matte black. The delicate precision engineered routing of the bayonet fitting would not last five minutes if made from plastic. And when tapped gently in free suspension it makes a ringing sound, suggesting it is not plastic.This is really high quality product, as one would expect from Nikon.
