Absolutely superb lens. This thing is tiny and light compared to my hulking great 70-200. That gigantic lens requires a shoulder strap attached to the lens itself to protect the camera mount from the force, and you have to lug it around on the harness and carry by the handle all day. It's an absolute pain in the neck. Yeah you look cool and pro, but it ain't worth it.Where as your camera with the 70-180 fitted, can fit in a relatively small shoulder carried camera bag and you can use a standard wrist strap. That way you can pop it back in the bag when not in use. Very easy to run around and reposition at sports events etc. No need to mess about changing straps/harnesses when say switching to your smaller prime lenses for an occasion.The lost 20mm was something I never used on my 70-200 anyway. As I spent 99.9% of my time in the 70-150 range. Besides, you can just crop...No difference in image quality. Not unless you start pixel peeping to a ridiculous extent. Unless you get your images professionally printed poster sized (which in reality no one does, but everyone pretends they do on forums) then there is no difference. My subjects use the images on Facebook so there is zero difference in quality once on there. If there is a difference, you'd have to view it zoomed full size on my 27" monitor and put your nose to the screen.AF performance appears to be identical to all my Nikkor "S" grade lenses. It focusses very fast and the hit rate is identical to every other lens. Any misses are down to the camera's AF system and not the lens. Blows away anything on my old F mount for hit rate.External zoom naturally leads to some concerns about dust/water, but I never had trouble with a 70-300 cheapy external zoom lens I had on my old DX system donkeys years ago. It's worth tolerating for something that can go so compact and I use a cover in the rain anyway.Oh and it's almost half the price of the 70-200. It's a no brainer.The competition to this lens is not the 70-200, as that big boy is reserved for the fake photographers who spend all their time arguing on forums, and Youtubers. Oh and the one in a thousand who really needs that extra 20mm. But let's be honest your BIF and nature boys are all using much large lenses and don't mess with 70-200's much anyway.IMO the real competition is the 35-150 2-2.8 but you pay significantly more for that. It would probably be a better lens for me personally, but I don't need that extra 35 at the wide angle badly enough to spend that much extra and deal with the weight.An easy 5 stars for me.

My Nikkor lens arrived early. The packing was thorough, which is what you would expect when spending a couple of G’s on a new lens. Had the chance to take it out on a professional shoot and it worked great, no malfunctions or issues as far as I can tell. Highly recommend this seller 👍
