Something was wrong with the portafilter filter basket—two holes didn't work well, and coffee was squirted all over the kitchen. The wooden handlebar also kept sliding around and wouldn't tighten well (into itself). Finally, I didn't feel the fit with my Sage machine was very good. The coffee tasted good - shame. I would not recommend buying it.

Slim item, solid packaging, does exactly what it's supposed to as a Portafilter. Fits my Breville Barista Express Impress.

This is a very nice flat-bottomed, bottomless portafilter, with an upgraded 16-18 gram, doubleshot basket from normcore. The basket is the best part, as it gave consistently awesome pulls from the get-go. Although that could also be attributed to the flat-bottomed portafilter, as the flat bottom made it easier to configure a nice flat level surface to tamp evenly, on my selection of tamping mats. This bottom wasn't as flat as some other flat-bottomed portafilters that I've used however, so you would still need to use some kind of tamping mat with this to get optimal results. That said, it's still worth it if you like the normcore aesthetic, and are a fan of the rest of their line. Some other features that I really liked on this, were the form factor and the less conspicuous branding on this item. The handle is longer on this one, compared to the standard normcore portafilter handle. That gives you a bit more leverage when locking in and removing the portafilter, which is good, as it leads to less issues with the basket coming loose, which seems to be an issue with most normcore portafilters. Hopefully, that won't become an issue as time goes on, but I'll be sure to update if it does. As for the branding, I like that on the end of the handle it says "designed by normcore" in very small text, which is great, as it's less obtrusive. Also, the brand name is not horizontal on the end of the handle, so no need to tighten and retighten in order to try to align the brand name horizontally, to no avail. (I know that's being picky, but seeing it at an angle it really sets off my OCD...)Some things that could be better are as follows. First, the walnut handle here is very nice, though the finish could be a bit smoother. Second, the handle sometimes comes loose from the portafilter holder end, if you aren't careful to tighten it very snugly. Third, the price point is high, although some of that can be explained by the upgraded portafilter basket, this seems at the higher end of that range. Finally, the portafilter basket can sometimes come a bit loose by a mm or so. Given my experience with normcore, that can turn into a real problem eventually requiring a new, thicker portafilter ring. I hope that won't be the case here, as I really like this one. It isn't nearly as loose as what I've encountered before, so we will wait and see I guess.Nevertheless, I really dig this piece of espresso kit, and I'm looking forward to enjoying it into the future. I'm a big fan of normcore's design sensibilities, and I've gotten great results from it immediately, without any fuss or fiddling, it has been awesome. Recommended.

I absolutely love this portafilter! This style, with the cutouts on the sides, makes it incredibly easy to watch your beautiful, golden-brown espresso pulls. It's top-quality through and through—it feels substantial, heavy, the wood is a gorgeous ashy walnut, the chrome has a deep mirror finish. Very impressive. The basket is the finest I've seen—the machining and etching is exquisite—I just wish I could evaluate it, read on below. Of course, being bottomless, it's very easy to pop the basket out and clean both pieces. This will definitely be my everyday portafilter. Even the unboxing is premium—this would make a great gift! I love it and I would give it 6 stars if I could! This is the first of the 5 portafilters I have that actually feels worth the high price tag.Negatives: The biggest one is that that awesome basket doesn't fit my Breville Barista Touch—and other Breville machines may be a tight fit as well—which is too bad since it's made for these machines. The crown of the rim is a little too tall. Trying to lock it into the group head just feels too tight like I'm probably damaging the gasket. For now, I'm resigned to not use it, but it *would* be the nicest basket I have and I wish I could use it. Minor quibbles: I think a lacquer or poly or other finish on the wood handle could be better. Also, take note of how large it is—while that's a positive for making this piece look grand among your kit, it may be a negative if you're not storing it on your machine and have limited space to store it elsewhere.

There’s so much to love about this Normcore 54mm low-profile portafilter. The genuine walnut handle is gorgeous and feels great in the hand. The overall build has a nice weight to it. It feels solid, not bulky. I also love that the low-profile design keeps everything nearly in-line. It practically eliminates the need for a portafilter rest, which makes prepping a little more streamlined. It locks into my Breville Barista Express smoothly and feels secure. But a few issues take some of the shine off.First, the handle has a tendency to unscrew from the metal head. It took a fair bit of force to tighten it enough so it would stop loosening. So far, it hasn’t come loose again, but I’m cautiously optimistic it stays that way. The included Normcore basket is where things get complicated. It does not play well with Breville’s dosing funnel. The funnel latches onto the basket like it’s trying to adopt it, and when you pull the funnel off, the basket comes with it, sometimes dragging coffee grounds with it. Not ideal. As a workaround, I’ve been using a dosing cup to prep my shots and transferring the coffee by hand. It works, but it’s a little more finicky and requires a steady hand. I thought about swapping in another basket that plays nicer with the funnel, but I really wanted to give the Normcore basket a fair shot. Unfortunately, repeated thefts by the funnel seem to have loosened the fit. Now any basket I insert has a tendency to fall out. I’ve read that’s a common issue with Normcore portafilters, which is disappointing.Still, despite all that, I keep reaching for this one more than any of my others. It’s beautiful, feels great, and pairs well with my machine when I don’t need the dosing funnel. At $90, it’s not cheap, but it’s a solid performer with a few caveats.Four stars from me (as a Normcore fan boy), but in all honesty I should really give this three stars. If they could improve basket retention and compatibility with dosing tools, it would be an easy five.

Excellent build quality, however it does not fit my Bambino. The title does say it doesn’t fit the “bambino plus”, but should also include that it doesn’t fit the bambino as well.
